Essence Stays No Matter What Waterproof Eyeliner Pen and Eyepencil

Update on the eyeliner pen: It started drying out after about 10 uses. Seriously?! Definitely not repurchasing!

Because I'm always on the lookout for a good waterproof eyeliner, I was incredibly excited when I saw these at my local Shoppers Drug Mart! I couldn't find any English reviews on these, so I bought them, hoping for the best. So now, I present to you, the Essence Stays No Matter What Waterproof Eyeliner Pen and Eyepencil:

These are part of the new Essence "Stays No Matter What" line, which apart from these liners, also consists of a mascara. Check out the swatches below:

Okay, first lets talk about the Eyeliner Pen. This is so amazingly easy to use, both for drawing thicker and thinner lines.

I love using this to just thinly line my upper lash line to make my lashes look fuller. It's not as black as I'd prefer when applying, but going over the line just one extra time definitely does the trick. Doing a cat eye with this liner is also easy-peasy.
The only downfall of this liner, which you should be able to see from the swatches above, is that it's not waterproof! So seriously, don't go dunking your head in a pool with this on, you'll end up with black tears running down your face (this happened while I was washing my makeup off the other day).
However, this liner does last on my upper lash line (not waterline) with no smudging onto my eyelids, so I will continue to use this.
(If you are looking for a seriously waterproof liquid liner though, I strongly recommend the Essence Waterproof Liquid Liner. This stuff has stayed perfectly on me even after swimming in the sea!)

As for eyepencil, it's not as creamy as I had hoped, but still applies without too much difficulty (just a tiny bit of tugging).
You can see from the above swatches that the eyepencil is indeed waterproof and fairly smudgeproof as well. It wears wonderfully on both the upper lash line and the lower waterline. I wore it on my lower waterline for 6 hours today, and it had only faded ever so slightly.
My only qualm about this eyepencil is that it's awful to sharpen. It's plastic instead of wooden, and while my sharpener sharpens wooden eyepencils perfectly, it does a pretty poor job of sharpening the Essence eyepencil.

Overall, I am very happy with these liners! You can buy these at Shoppers Drug Mart for under $4 each (I believe it was $2 for the eyepencil and $3.29 for the eyeliner pen).

  1. Woah, the pencil liner lasted longer than the liquid version. How cool! Plus its affordable. I wonder if US will carry that.
